About

Dominique James

Counselor, MS, LCPC

I was taught to maintain my curiosity from a young age. Eventually, I was able to match this curiosity with compassion. I recognized that we are all striving for understanding, but life and its challenges tend to interrupt this process. I am a 2nd-generation Afro-Caribbean American raised in Richmond, Va, presently loving Chicago for all of its complexity and richness. I am a music-loving, chess-playing, bicycle-riding, pet-loving kind of guy. My background has consistently involved serving marginalized people, ranging from veterans experiencing homelessness to families affected by cancer. Above all things, I am a community member.

My practice integrates mindfulness and relational awareness while acknowledging how the brain impacts our ability to regulate thoughts and behavior. I have training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy & Stress Reduction, Brainspotting, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Polyvagal Theory. I take pride in my flexibility and empathy in this historical moment.

Collaboration resides at the core of my practice. During the intake process, we will determine how you would like to make changes in the ways you see yourself and the world. I aim to empower you by examining your means of coexistence and perception while offering you warm, personalized counsel. Let us recognize the potential in each day.
